The
Story of Miguel
“Miguel”
came to CLUES for help in securing employment. He
brought with him a tough history of an unjust seven
year jail sentence, lacking family support and an employment gap of eight years.
His employment counselor could tell he was
enthusiastic about obtaining employment but lacked the
necessary tools to do so.
With his counselor’s help, Miguel actively applied to various positions, but due to his record no offers were made. Finally, they identified a position with a local veterinary hospital as an Animal Cage Cleaner. Miguel was excited about the job and with h is counselor’s assistance, persistently sought the position. With effective communication and advocacy from his counselor, Miguel was able to explain his past record. He was offered the position, first on a temporary basis, but it soon turned to full-time work. Miguel was elated with his new responsibilities and impressed his employer with his strong work ethic. He has since been promoted to Animal Technician. Miguel’s self-confidence and dignity have been restored and he is grateful to CLUES for their care and dedication.
