The Career and Community Learning Center
(CCLC) at the University of
Minnesota, announced Chicanos Latinos Unidos En Servicio (CLUES) as a recipient
of the 2002-2003 Outstanding Community Partner Award at a reception held on
Wednesday, April 23. The award,
chosen by the Community Involvement and Service-Learning staff at CCLC, was in
recognition of CLUES' dedication and commitment to their partnership with CCLC
for the support of students, faculty and staff engaged in service learning.
The Annual Recognition
Event, held at Northrup Auditorium, was to honor students, faculty, and
community agencies' work in local communities. Laurel Hirt, Community Involvement and Service Learning
Coordinator, who presented the award, states that, “CCLC
selects the recipients of this award based on the demonstrated commitment and
responsiveness of the organization to service-learning.
CLUES staff members, Alejandra Reyes and Melissa Ganshert, display this
commitment through their work with University student tutors, by participating
as training session facilitators, by serving on committees for CCLC and by
regularly attending service-learning meetings and events.”
Since
1981, CLUES has been providing linguistically appropriate and culturally
competent services to Latinos in Minnesota.
In 2002, CLUES provided over 23,900 clients with services in Mental
Health Services, Chemical Health Services, Family Services, Aging Well Services,
Employment Services, and Educational Services.
CLUES mission is to enhance the quality of life of Chicano Latinos in
Minnesota.
