The Latino Resource Center
We
are proud to be recognized as leading source of
culturally specific materials for the Spanish speaking
community. We believe that in a very brief period of
time the Latino Resource Center has met some
very important initial goals in its process to becoming
a leader representing prevention needs of alcohol
tobacco and other drugs for the Hispanic community.
The
center is located in Minneapolis and houses competent
and certified staff recognized for their abilities,
skills, and strengths within the prevention field. It
also offers culturally specific pamphlets,
brochures, and videos in both Spanish and English that
address a broad array of chemical dependency prevention
topics.
Our
objectives include:
-
Increase
the visibility and accessibility of linguistically
appropriate and culturally competent Alcohol,
Tobacco and Other Drugs (ATOD)
resources and trainings to service providers
statewide to increase knowledge of the needs of the
Latino community and their ability to serve this
community.
-
Build
capacity of ATOD prevention professionals to serve
the Latino communities in/near Albert Lea (south
Minnesota), Moorhead and Willmar.
-
Train
and support ATOD prevention staff in the use of
technology in the field of prevention in the Latino
community.
-
Create
ways to sustain the Latino Resource Center
financially.
The
ability to make the inroads for the Spanish speaking
community via the success of the social services of
Comunidades
Latinas Unidas En Servicio (CLUES) has enhance
the accessibility of written, video and audio materials
as well as professional presentations throughout the
state.
We
believe that the important issues surrounding chemical
dependency and its’ prevention will continue to be
regarded as high priority as the Latino resource
Center serves the community.
We
have gone from a fairly new program that’s introduced
in the community to a program that has not only
established itself in the community but has become a
reputable provider of Latino ATOD expertise.
