Honoring Maria Regan Gonzalez – Gala Latina 2019

Honoring Maria Regan Gonzalez

The first Latina Mayor in Minnesota and in the Midwest

As the Mayor of the City of Richfield, Mayor Regan Gonzalez is leading efforts to promote a more inclusive government amidst widening disparities and racial inequities, prioritizing affordable housing, civic engagement, health equity, and inclusive decision-making.
As a changemaker Mayor Regan Gonzalez organized residents in the City of Richfield to move from hope for the city to action and mobilization that secured her election as City Council Member in 2016 and as Mayor in 2018. Maria also co-founded La Red Latina de Educación Temprana, a network of over 300 Latina childcare providers working to change Minnesota’s early childhood system to include Latino parents so that they could also raise healthy and school-ready children.
As a 2019 Bush Foundation Fellow, Mayor Regan Gonzalez is leading efforts to build new ways to create room for more voices in decision-making and embody alternative models of governance that unify diverse groups of people. Hear her remarks about the importance of collective leadership to generate lasting change and making what seems impossible, possible for entire communities.
